The future of games lie in the hands of its players, we are no longer just content with what game developers supply us we want complete control and customisation of what we purchase this is evident by the recent rise of a cross genre of games. This games I shall for all in sakes purpose call the creativity genre as many don’t fall under a strict existing genre, most notably games like LittlebigPlanet and ModnationRacers which take an existing genre and bend it out of shape relying on its players to create the levels and elements to play the game.
Some may argue that this is just a more open version of modding or pre-requisite materials already supplied and to some degree this is true but the dynamics of how these items are ordered and set up can create an almost unlimited set of variations limited only by the creativity of its players. Players want to feel part of the game like they are contributing sharing there ideas and extending there gameplay experience. Lets take LittleBigPlanet 2 for example its not a platform game to say but more a platform to make games build up knowledge and ideas inspiring the young to enter and rethink they way they play and design. Games like the Sims and Spore do emulate elements of this creative genre but to be honest the cosmetic changes share no real impact on the actual gameplay. Will the future be less prebuilt levels and more customisation and making elements who knows… could this be the start of a new genre for the future, like simulation 2.0 I cant wait to find out.
